Saves not opening in game

Hi all, I've had an issue with my saves not opening in game for about a year now. I haven't really played the game in this time except to make a new save file to test some things. My old save files appear in game as in the image above. If I try to open them, they just take me into the latest working save file -- the new one. I've checked the file paths and everything lines up and copied from backups but frankly nothing has worked. I've had some of these save files for years so it would be devastating to lose them. I've also verified that they aren't corrupted so I can't figure out the issue.

  • layniiiiii  What do you mean, you verified that the saves aren't corrupt?  This is one result of a corrupt save, that it loses its thumbnail and can't be loaded.  It's entirely possible that's what's happened to you.

Usually this issue can't be fixed, but one long shot is that if you were using mods or custom content in these saves before, you might need to add that same content back now.  Sometimes removing certain mods makes a save unplayable.

The metadata of the files and their structure is intact (afaik, only checked a few slots) but there was nothing that led me to believe they shouldn't work. I haven't removed any mods. This happened when I was porting the files from an old computer.

  • layniiiiii  Do the saves still work on the old computer?  If so, I'd port them again, but zip the folder first.

If the saves no longer work on the old computer either, they may have corrupted after a patch, or from the effects of a mod, or from removing a mod that they were dependent on.

As far as corruption goes, I get what you're saying, but with Sims 4 saves, we tend to use "corrupt" as a catch-all for saves that the game can't use, not only for the case where the files themselves are corrupt in the strictest sense.
