Should I buy a new Monitor?

Hi everyone, I usually play the sims 4 on my mac but with the amount of cc and mods that I have my game lags a lot. I started using a desktop that I had at home but my game is even more laggy now. I have no idea if the issue is the big box (I think that’s the PC??) or if it’s the monitor. The big box(the PC I think) is a Dell Inspirion and I’m pretty sure the guy who sold it to us had upgraded some part but I’m not sure what, it has 2T of space but i don’t know what other things I should be looking at to figure out of this is what’s making my game lags. The monitor that they sold to us is an Asus IPS HDMI with resolution 1920x1080 again I don’t know what to look for in this kind of things

I’m sorry if this was hard to understand or if I didn’t give enough information on both the PC or the Monitor I just know that it takes 20 to 25 minutes from clicking open the sims to when the screen actually turns black to open the game and then it’s another 25-30 before it even starts doing anything.

If anyone has any recommendations on what I should upgrade or what I should change I would gladly appreciate it thank you ☺️

If you'd like help with the game itself, please test with no mods or custom content present, as in, move the Mods folder to the desktop and delete localthumbacache.package.

If that doesn't help, or you don't use mods or cc at all, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

  • 0671689  The graphics driver your computer has installed is from 2016, which may be part or all of the issue.  So please try updating it.  You can get the newest driver Intel offers here:

    https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/80817/intel-core-i54460-processor-6m-cache-up-to-3-40-ghz/downloads.html

You'll of course want the one that's compatible with Windows 10, dated February 5, 2021.  It's old too but may work better with the game.  Run the installer as an admin: right-click the download and select "Run as administrator."  Restart your computer afterwards and before trying to play.

Your computer is borderline for Sims 4 though, at least once you start adding expansions and custom content.  That doesn't mean you can't play, only that you might need to make some compromises.  The processor is fine, but you don't have a lot of RAM, and the graphics chip is on the weaker side.

So one thing that may help is to restart your computer immediately before you want to play, and not open anything else at the same time.  It might turn out that you're fine running a browser or a music player or similar, but if you're still seeing performance issues, please try this.

If it doesn't help, or doesn't help enough, turn all the graphics settings down to the minimum and test again, after another restart.  I'm not saying you need to play this way in general, only that it's a useful test in that the results will be informative either way.

Okay thank you so much for your help!!! I've installed the graphic drive that you mentioned, I do prefer to play the sims 4 with mods and cc but due to the lag and loading times when I added the mods folder back in I had a feeling the only way to solve this would be playing without mods. If you don't mind recommending some computers that could run the sims 4 smoothly with mods and cc I would gladly appreciate it. Once again thank you so much for your help!! ;)

  • 0671689  I would be happy to do so.  Please list your budget and country, plus any other details that matter to you, for example laptop vs. desktop, screen size or weight for a laptop, etc.  And if your budget needs to include a monitor, let me know as well.  Your existing monitor would be compatible with pretty much any new computer though.

I live in the United States and for a budget, I don’t really know how much this stuff cost so maybe the cheapest one but I am also willing to spend the necessary amount for a decent set up. If the monitor I have would work with any computer than I’m good on that part thank you 👍🏽

  • 0671689  Gaming desktops start around $700, with a major upgrade around $850-900.  Is that okay, or do you want to spend less?  And are you ready to buy now, or are you going to wait?  What's available changes quickly, and prices more quickly than that, so there's no point in listing specific options until you're ready to buy.  But I can instead list the hardware you should look for when you're shopping, or you can let me know when you're actively looking and I can list good options then.
