Mm, that does sound familiar. I had a similar but different issue with painting at an easel as well. The easel issue would be that the Sim was easily distracted. At the robotics table, the Sim won't start working at all. Not really sure if they're the same bug manifesting in different ways or two separate issues. Is there any fix for this?

I don't think there's a solution but I haven't followed these bug reports to see if someone came up with a solution (other than removing the items that were distracting Sims)
