Sims 4 - stuck on loading screen

Hey guys, I'll be straight up.

I open my game with no trouble at all, but as soon as I click on "resume" or even try to load another save file, it gets stuck on loading screen.. I've waited one hour and it still hasn't loaded.

I removed my entire Mods folder so it's not a mod problem.

Any suggestions on what to do?

  • @Mo0nFa1ry  Does a new save load with your Mods folder removed?  Please test if you haven't already and let me know.

If that doesn't or didn't help, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just let me know whether you can get far enough to start a new save and play in live mode for a bit.

If that doesn't help either, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

  • @Mo0nFa1ry It could potentially be a small glitch. If you can press escape and leave the game then do so and repair the game. Otherwise force quit the game and repair. Often this solves it for me!
  • I am having a similar problem but it only happens with specific saves. For older saves I am stuck on the loading screen and for new saves I can play right away.

  • i had the same issue and I put my sims 4 folder in my desktop and it worked. but my mods arent showing up in he game even though i still have my mods folder in my sims 4 game. the only way my mods show up if if my sims 4 folder is in electronic arts. can i put my sims 4 folder back in electronic arts or will my game have the same issue again if i do that? by the wy, my issue was that everytime i went to resume my game, it would just show me an infinite loading screen.

@Vicandjoeplays  The game isn't reading the Sims 4 folder on the desktop, which is why your mods aren't loading either.  The point is to test whether removing all your content at once, everything in that old folder, fixed the issue(s) you're seeing.  Since it did, the next step is to test your old content in the new folder, a little at a time.  Start with your mods and custom content.  You can find a list of mods and cc known to be broken here:

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/Mods-CC-Issues/Broken-Obsolete-and-Updated-Sims-4-Mods-1-108-July-23-2024-Game/td-p/13891143

For anything not on that list, you'll need to test it yourself.  The 50/50 method can make the process much more efficient.

Once you've done that, you can copy over the contents of saves, Tray (saved households and builds), Screenshots and Recorded Videos if you care about those, plus the UserSetting.ini file for the login rewards.  The rest can be discarded.
