hi, thanks again for the help. it worked but i just have a problem now that i thought maybe you could help. basically i went on a trip for 2 weeks and didnt touch my pc. i just got back yesterday and i was able to play yesterday and earlier today. my pc sorta updated earlier like a windows update. however, i tried opening my pc a few minutes ago and it'll load up my lock screen then the screen turns black and it just stays that way. i can still move my mouse and all tho but the screen remains black. i know this isnt a sims problem but i just thought that maybe you'd know what to do. again, thank you so much.

@aegisquared  Turn on your PC, and one minute, hold the power button to shut it off, twice in a row.  After two consecutive shutdowns like this (a forced shutdown less than two minutes after boot), Windows should boot into recovery mode.  This may or may not fix the problem, but it's simple to try.

Even simpler, double-check that the HDMI cable from your computer to the monitor is secure on both ends.  If that's not the problem, disconnect the cable, blow out the connectors (both ends) and both ports with compressed air, and reconnect.  If your motherboard has a second HDMI port, use that instead.  (Your monitor does not.)

If that doesn't help, borrow an HDMI cable from someone and test with that.  If your motherboard has a DisplayPort port (your monitor does), you can test with a DP cable instead, also useful if the problem might be one of the HDMI ports.

hello ! unfortunately, none of these work. ☹️( it's still the same that it opens, enters the lock screen ( or start up screen i believe ) then it says welcome with a loading sign then turns to a black screen in less than a minute. do you think that this could have something to do with the update?

@aegisquared  It sounds like you might not have accessed the Startup Repair mode, the recovery mode I mentioned earlier.  Here's a better description:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/recovery-options-in-windows-31ce2444-7de3-818c-d626-e3b5a3024da5#bkmk_win11_startup_repair

If that doesn't help, I think you need to get someone to look at the computer in person.  Whether that's a professional or just someone who's good with Windows, this is the kind of problem that needs hands-on help.  It may be that you need to reset the computer or reinstall Windows, either of which would delete your data.  There are ways to grab your essential files first, by creating a bootable USB stick and booting into that rather than your computer's internal drive, but again, that's something that you might need to ask for help with.
