Yes i played in between those dates. No other updates to my system besides the game update. All my drivers are up to date. Like i said, never had this problem till now, even with mods. I have no mods installed right now, so its not a conflict with them.
TBH, I have no clue what is causing this issue for some and not for others.
Could you check if it works if you switch back to 32 bit: http://sims4.crinrict.com/en/2015/11/64-bit-is-coming-to-windows-pc/
That worked. I was able to place a shelf without it going black. Everyone who has this problem should change to 32-bit and see if it fixes it.

Unfortunately many had this before 64 bit came out but at least there's an indication why it stopped working for you.

Switch back to 64 bit and turn of Origin in game: http://sims4.crinrict.com/en/2014/09/deactivate-origin-in-game/ (unless you've already tried that)
