Sims 4 Completely Malfunctioning

Lately if I enter the game, and go to do anything, it simply wont do it. I pick up a door and when I click to place it, it just wont. If I click the person and click them to do anything, it just wont respond. I go to save, and it'll sit in the "saving" screen for hours on end and won't actually ever save. I have to go ctrl alt del and end the task in order to close the game.

I have "repaired" the game many times in EA, I have uninstalled and reinstalled it, and I don't know what else to do. I have checked my specs and it's all fine. I have no mods, and it doesn't matter if I've used cheat codes or not - it just doesn't work.

I'm at a loss, honestly. I kind of wish it would just go back to being games on discs and not rely on online platforms and updates.

Any one have any ideas?

  • pprisk  Does this happen in a new save as well?  Please test for comparison's sake and let me know.

Please also provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

  • This exact thing happens to me, except when I log back in to sims, the save file I was playing in when it froze is mysteriously gone. I have lost 2 of my saves now.

Attached last exception - maybe this will help?

  • Brittbrat028  The lastexception didn't attach properly.  If you want to try again, open it and delete the first line of text.

Please also let me know whether this happens with no mods or custom content present.

    Hello! Dxdiag is attached

I didn't realise this, but I made a new game, a new character, moved him in, and got him to do something, and saved. Nothing glitched, so its somehow just my older game glitching?

  • pprisk  It does sound like the issue is your old save, but that doesn't mean the entire save is unusable going forward.  You can try emptying out your sims' inventories, and the household inventory as well; you can move your sims to a different lot; you can play a different household and come back to your original one.  These are all tests to see whether you can isolate the cause of the issue.  If something works but you don't like the results, let me know—there might be a less-intrusive fix as well.

As a side note, your computer could probably take a standalone graphics card.  I don't know what power supply you have, but a used GTX 1050/1050 ti/1650 would be cheap and fit in most cases, and many models don't require a supplemental power connector.  All of these are capable of running Sims 4 on ultra graphics settings.  If you're interested in upgrading and want to talk more about it, let me know.
