Sims 4 crashing and stuck on save
Hey everyone. I have stumbled upon a save/crash lag in my Sims 4 game. Initially, the problem manifested as save lag, where the game would get stuck while saving, continuing to run in the background but becoming unresponsive. This made it impossible to exit the game or open other applications (even through the task manager), requiring a computer restart. When saves did occur (usually only worked when I saved right after opening the household), the Grim Rewards progress would be erased upon reopening the app.
The issue has since evolved. Now, instead of freezing during saves, the game crashes after a period of loading when attempting to play a household. This occurs despite thorough troubleshooting efforts, including removing broken CC, verifying the integrity of all mods (and CC), trying out various online solutions, and even reinstalling both the EA app and The Sims 4.
Prior to this major problem, there were some CC-related issues causing in-game texture lag and question marks, but these were resolved by removing the problematic CC. A strange audio glitch persists: a weird crack sound accompanied by a brief screen blackout upon game startup, though I'm not sure if this is related to The Sims 4 or a separate computer issue.
In an attempt to fix the crashes, replacing the Sims 4 folder and starting a new save file seemed to work, but I haven't fully explored this as I was worried about potentially losing save data. I have no clue what the actual cause is, but I'm suspecting that it's a file within the Sims 4 folder, possibly a save file, which could be corrupted or causing conflicts. I'm not too computer savvy though, so I am just guessing at this point.
I feel like I have tried everything and I'm absolutely desperate now as I can't play with my old saves. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!
@ItsMeDanielllle Your dxdiag lists a pile of crashes of a component of the Nvidia graphics driver, so I'd suggest doing a clean uninstall and reinstall of the driver even if you're not currently seeing any issues. Here's how:
The virtual monitor software you're using could intefere with Sims 4 as well, although it might also be fine. If you do see more issues and reinstalling the graphics driver doesn't help, I'd try shutting down this software before playing. Go through the Task Manager's background processes list to make sure nothing related is still running.
The inability to tab out of Sims 4 is a known issue with the DirectX 11 version of the game. Some people report that playing in windowed mode, either standard or "windowed fullscreen" (i.e. Borderless) helps, but others say it doesn't. Regardless, the problem should be addressed sooner or later since this is a basic function.
For build issues, I really have no troubleshooting skills at all. You'd be better off posting in Game Issues just for this, that is if you run into the problem again. A couple of helpers there have a good idea of how to force Build mode to work, at least as well as it can.
