Sims 4 Crashing since Origin Update

Can someone please post a simple, step-by-step solution to resolve the Sims 4 crashing error since the Origin update? I'm experiencing the same issue as several other users where I try to play a hous...

    @UNCCMALE  I've moved your post to the Sims 4 PC tech section.  (Tagging @EmmaJohnsie and @kaykay14268  for awareness.)

    Please move your entire Sims 4 game folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will be created with no content.  If it runs normally, as in, you can play a household, save it, quit, reload, and play that same household, the issue is likely one or more broken mods or cc items.

    You'll need to sort through those files manually to figure out which ones are incompatible with the latest patch; you can test them in batches in your clean game folder.  There's a cc shelf that's a common culprit (I think it's the OSMP shelf); otherwise, this thread may be helpful, although it may not be a complete list:

@Darkholme11  Please do a clean uninstall and reinstall of Origin:

  • Quit Origin, then right-click on the Task Bar and open the Task Manager.  Scroll through looking for Origin entries.  If you find any, click on them and End Task.
  • Clear Origin's cache.
  • Download Revo Uninstaller (the free version is fine) from here.
  • Launch Revo, select Origin from the list, and click Uninstall.
  • When it finishes uninstalling, select "Moderate" under "scanning modes," and click Scan.
  • If Revo finds any remaining registry entries, select all, delete, and click Next.
  • Revo will display "Remaining Data and Folders."  Select all of them except for the "Origin Games" folder, if it appears.  (This is where Sims 4 and other Origin games are installed by default.)  Delete the rest.
  • Close Revo, and restart your computer.

Next, download the full Origin installer and run it.  Here's the direct download link:

Be sure to run both the installer and Origin itself as an admin: right-click on each and select "Run as Administrator."

Once Origin is reinstalled, repair Sims 4: open your Origin game library, right-click on the Sims 4 icon, and select Repair.  Then try to play.

    This has been done once already. I've scoured the net for this issue and none have fixed it. Literally everything you can find like allowing through firewall, running as administrator, adding my games to my graphic cards AMD program. I've repaired, updated and changed settings in Origin. I just built this pc. It's beyond the requirements yet EA never addresses crucial issues. It took me over 8 hours to install my sims games. It would just freeze with downloading. Then installing took the same time. It got hung up. It shouldn't be this difficult for a top end pc to run, install or fix a game such as this. I've never used CC or Mods either. I've added origin and sims 4 as private and public access. Also set my compatibility mode too. But all I ever hear from EA is the same standard message. Uninstall and reinstall. Repair, repair and repair. Triple A games from this year from Steam? Those work wonderfully. Easy Peasy. This has been thee worst game since 1999. But yet the concept is so fun we simply can't stop trying to play it. It's depressing.

      @Darkholme11  All you did was post a dxdiag and say that the game is crashing.  The dxdiag lists a few Origin errors and a couple of nondescript Sims 4 errors, so the obvious place to start is with a clean uninstall and reinstall of Origin.  On that note, did you actually do a clean uninstall?  If you simply uninstalled Origin through the Control Panel, that would not be thorough enough to eliminate Origin as a potential cause of the issue.

      Please undo any compatibility mode you've set for Sims 4.  The game runs fine in Windows 10, and a compatibility mode can make things worse, not to mention complicate troubleshooting.  Try putting Origin in offline mode before you play.  I realize that this might not be a good solution, since it doesn't allow you to use the Gallery, but it's worth finding out whether it makes a difference.

      The next crash you get, please look for a relevant crash dump.  Click Windows key-R and copy and paste this:

      %LocalAppData%\CrashDumps

      When you enter, you'll see a list of .dmp files.  If one of them is from Origin or Sims 4, please upload it to a third-party filehosting site (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.) and link it here.

      If there is no related .dmp file, you can enable them:

      • Hit the Windows key, type "command prompt" in the box, right-click on Command Prompt in the search results, and select Run as Administrator
      • In the window, paste "reg add "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps\devenv.exe" /v DumpType /d 2 /t REG_DWORD" without the outside quotes into the box, and enter
      • Launch Sims 4 and wait for it to crash (whether you can play at all or not)
      • After it crashes, wait for any crash dialogs to finish
      • Then hit Windows key-R and paste "%LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps" without quotes into the box, and enter
      • Upload the last .dmp file to a free filesharing site and link it here
      • When you want to undo the auto crash log dumps, open Command Prompt as before, paste "reg delete "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps" /f" without the outside quotes, and enter.

      During all of this, please play in a clean Sims 4 user folder, as in, move the existing folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and let the game generate a new one, just so that there aren't any complicating factors.
