Sims 4 Crashing??

Good morning, I have been trying to play my sims 4 and have never had this issue before. Sometimes the game doesn't load in at all, sometimes it won't go into a lot and every time it crashes. I have updated my NVIDIA drivers, removed every single CC/Mod, completely uninstalled and reinstalled the game and nothing has changed. If anyone has any advice or anything I can try that would be awesome. Thank you, I'm at a loss at this point. I was going to purchase some of the expansions on sale but will not be doing so until I can get the game running properly.

  • Same here since the last update, i have had nothing but problems and crashes. i have long given up the mods and cc idea of playing and i also have an updated msi gaming computer i am so frustrated! the amount of glitches prior to the crashing! lagging and whatnot! this is actually one of the very first times i have had so many problems! the game crashes and i restart after i repair of course.....and then it acts like i just bought all of the games again and a few times has even wiped out all of my data.....HELP

  • Nevrland1897  These are all breakpoint errors, and if increasing the page file size didn't help, either something else is eating all the RAM and page file space, or the error has a different trigger.  One common cause is an issue with the graphics driver, so try doing a clean uninstall and reinstall of the driver:

    https://crinrict.com/blog/2019/02/clean-re-install-of-graphics-drivers-with-display-driver-uninstaller-ddu.html

If that doesn't help either, I'd like to take a look at a crash dump.  Click Windows key-R and copy and paste this:

    %LocalAppData%\CrashDumps

When you enter, you'll see a list of .dmp files.  If one of them is from Sims 4 and is from after you reinstalled the graphics driver, please upload it to a third-party filehosting site (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.) and link it here.  If you see a crash dump that was written at exactly the time the game crashed, I'd like that too.

If there is no Sims 4 .dmp file, you can enable them:

    • Hit the Windows key, type "command prompt" in the box, right-click on Command Prompt in the search results, and select Run as Administrator
    • In the window, paste "reg add "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps\devenv.exe" /v DumpType /d 2 /t REG_DWORD" without the outside quotes into the box, and enter
    • Launch Sims 4 and wait for it to crash (whether you can play at all or not)
    • After it crashes, wait for any crash dialogs to finish
    • Then hit Windows key-R and paste "%LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps" without quotes into the box, and enter
    • Upload the last .dmp file to a free filesharing site and link it here
    • When you want to undo the auto crash log dumps, open Command Prompt as before, paste "reg delete "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps" /f" without the outside quotes, and enter.

Charlie198922  Please create your own thread describing your issue.  Please also provide a dxdiag.  How to run one is covered above.

This is the best way I could figure out how to share the .dmp

I have been unable to do the driver reset as i'll need some assistance from a family member to make sure I do it right, do you see anything in the .dmp file?

  • Nevrland1897  I wouldn't have minded the raw .dmp file, but this does make it easier for me.  And yes, I do see some interesting info:

    ERROR_CODE: (NTSTATUS) 0xc0000374 - A heap has been corrupted.
    MODULE_NAME: nvwgf2umx
    FAILURE_BUCKET_ID:  HEAP_CORRUPTION_ACTIONABLE_MultipleEntriesCorruption_c0000374_nvwgf2umx.dll!Unknown

This is the Nvidia driver, and a corrupted heap is memory-related but doesn't need to have anything to do with RAM directly—it can just as easily be a fault of the software.

All this means is that a clean uninstall and reinstall of the driver is the right move here.  If you would like help with the process and don't want to wait on a family member, feel free to ask about whatever steps you don't understand or can't execute.

Since we're here though, I would suggest installing a slightly older driver, as I've seen enough reports of driver-related issues lately that there's a chance the newest driver isn't playing well with Sims 4.  You can always update from an older driver to a newer one, but going backdwards requires another clean uninstall, so it's best to start with the oldest version you'd want to use and work forward from there.

You can find older drivers here:

    https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/drivers/

Make sure to choose Game Ready Driver as the download type, which will let you go back further.  But you don't need to use the oldest driver; the one from March 18 should be fine, especially given that it wasn't replaced for several weeks.
