sims 4 error code 123

I've been having this issue for a while now, but thought I'd post about it since it's starting to bother me more and I think it might be related to more issues in my game. Whenever I create a new game or load a save, i always get this error message. I've included a screenshot of my game to show what it is. I have all the expansion and game packs, toddler, laundry day, bowling night, and the movie hangout stuff packs. I use cc and mods, so I took out my mods folder and tested the game again, but I'm still getting the message.

I just tried to create a new game, but once I moved my sim into her apartment, the game took me back to the world select and whenever I try to play her household, i'm always taken back to world select.

I'm also having an issue where random packs I have downloaded will show up in my game, but I'm not able to place of sometimes even pick up build items or use the cas items. In build mode, I'll often get a message with seemingly working packs' items saying "invalid objects definition" For example, in one of my saves, none of the GTW special venues will allow sims inside and will have none of the career related build items, such as surgery tables or almost everything in the scientist career.

I don't know if these are all related, but it's extremely annoying and I don't know how to fix it.

Thank you!

  • Repairing hadn't been working, so I started looking at what people did for similar error codes and ended up making a backup of my game, and then uninstalling and reinstalling it, which worked like a charm! I even tested all of my cc and mods too and none of them were causing any issues anymore either.

Thank you for all your help!

  • @mintedsims Did you already try repairing your game through Origin ?

Error codes are usually related to broken/corrupt saves or incompatible mods/cc. If you get it on a fresh save with no mods/cc installed in your game, that's rather curious.

Try resetting your user files as described in the factory reset described in this post: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-4/FAQ-Troubleshooting-Steps-amp-Known-Issues/m-p/3621199

You won't loose anything. Just make sure to not delete any files  and make a backup.

After renaming, repair your game by right clicking on the game in Origin.

Try on a new game with nothing added back first (start new game). If it works, put back your save game and try again. If it still works, you can start putting stuff back.

    • Options.ini (or just re-set all your settings manually)
    • Tray Folder
    • Screenshots/Videos/Custom music
    • Rest of the save games (leave out slot_00000001.save which is the autosave and no longer needed - if you still have it)
    • Custom content like clothing, hair, skins, make up ....
    • Mods (one by one, making sure they all still work)

The rest does not need putting back, cause they are mostly cache files that recreate or log files that are not needed for the game.

If it continues to happen on certain saves, I'm happy to take a look at them but if it's all saves, then there's something more going on.

  • I backed up my game and restarted it without any mods or anything. I wasn't getting the error code 123 anymore and I was able to play my game perfectly fine, until I tried making a retail store and anything from the GTW pack wouldn't place and would say either "invalid object definition" or something like "item is missing original footprint". Half of my dine out items only show up in build mode as red X's, too.

So now that I know the error code 123 is due to my cc or something with my old saves, I still don't know whats causing everything with "invalid object definition".

Thank you for your help with the error code though!

When you unistall and ruin it are your files still going to be there? If not which order do you put them back in?

@jaxjag08  The suggestion is not to uninstall the game but to reset your user data folder, which is much simpler.  Crinrict already described it above.

It's best to add mods first and test, then custom content, and then the contents of the saves and Tray folders if everything else works.  If you run into problems, you should try to fix those before you add your saves back in.

  • What do i do if i followed all these steps and its only happening to one save?
