Sims 4 family tree missing

I was pleased to see that the family tree feature had been included in the game so that I could see all the generations as I am working on a legacy. Recently, the tree has only shown the sims currently in the household and the their parents. The parents don't have a picture, just a blank face photo. I guess this was after the recent update. I do not have any mods that may be messing up the game so I'm not sure how to fix this.
