Sims 4 Folder Relocation

At the moment, I'm not exactly hard up on space with my C: Drive (got 88GB left), but considering my love for CC and Mods, I'm worried that's gonna start filling up real quick.

I found a few other threads about relocating the Documents folder to a different drive, but they come with two very different methods.

Method 1: https://crinrict.com/blog/2020/02/moving-windows-documents-folder-to-external-drive-via-symbolic-link.html
Method 2: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/74952-move-location-documents-folder-windows-10-a.html

My question is: If I'm looking to move just The Sims 4 folder from the C: Drive to my roomer SSD, would the first method be a viable option?  I'm not exactly tech savy, so method two has me a little hesitant.

  • @lakabocha  Yes, the first method would be viable.  The reason we usually recommend moving the entire Documents directory to a secondary internal drive is that this is supported by Windows and less complicated to do correctly.  It's not a good idea to move Documents to an external drive though, which is when the symbolic link comes into play.

However, if you'd prefer to use the symlink, that's a reasonable choice.  It's very difficult to actually bork your system when doing so; the worst that's likely to happen is you accidentally delete the Sims 4 user folder.  So make a backup copy beforehand, just in case.  And pay close attention to the syntax of the command, double-check your work, etc.
