Sims 4 Freezing when opening

If I open my Sims 4 it immediately freezes, however if i go off the app and back on i can click things for a second until it freezes again, its like the app is working but its not showing me it is. I can click things and open them it just doesn’t show me unless I go off the app and back on.

I have tried updating my laptop and fixing the game via the ea app and restoring it to factory settings and even deleting the game and deleting and redownloading the whole game and it still is not working. It was working fine until 2 nights ago!! Help please!!!!

  • @Smileyworld1507  If you haven't already, please try playing in a clean user folder with zero added content, not even your saves.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just let me know whether you can get far enough to start a new save and play in live mode for a bit.

If that doesn't help, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

@Smileyworld1507  Your dxdiag shows a number of serious crashes of the graphics driver, so the next move is to clean-uninstall and reinstall the driver.  Here's how:

    https://crinrict.com/blog/2019/02/clean-re-install-of-graphics-drivers-with-display-driver-uninstaller-ddu.html

Instead of downloading a driver from Intel, download the driver package Microsoft offers for your model laptop, the one for Windows 11:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=100429

You can just run the installer, while still offline; it should install a fresh copy of the graphics driver as well as any other updates you might be missing.  If it doesn't work while your computer is offline for some reason (it should, but I don't own a Surface and can't test), go back online and try again.

Please note that you already have the newest graphics driver installed, so simply opening the Surface app and checking for updates won't help here.  You need a fresh copy of the driver.

This issue could easily explain the Sims 4 freezes, but if the game still doesn't work after reinstalling the driver, please try launching it in windowed mode.  Go into Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4, open Options.ini, search for fullscreen , and set it to 0 (zero).

@mariamalou2009  Please run a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files:

    • Hit Windows key-X
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
    • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes, and enter
    • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
    • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
    • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator)”
    • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes, and enter
    • Post the message you receive here

Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the box to check for updates.  If any install, restart again afterwards.

Please also update the driver for your graphics card.  You can find the newest one available here:

    https://www.amd.com/en/support/downloads/drivers.html/graphics/radeon-rx/radeon-rx-6000-series/amd-radeon-rx-6600.html

Run the installer as an admin: right-click the download and select "Run as administrator."  Restart afterwards and before trying to play.

If that doesn't help, just to clarify, even starting a new save in a clean folder makes the game freeze?

  • The message I received was "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them.
For online repairs, details are included in the CBS log file located at
windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For offline
repairs, details are included in the log file provided by the /OFFLOGFILE flag."

  • After doing all the steps my sims still doesnt work, even if with a clean new folder

@mariamalou2009  Please try playing in a new admin Windows account.  Make it local, as in, don't link it to your Microsoft account.  (You can choose "I don't have this person's email" and "Continue without an email account" or similar.)  You'll be able to launch Sims 4 without reinstalling anything.

If this doesn't help either, please post a new dxdiag.
