SIMS 4 in - game data lost

Since the latest SIMS 4 update my entire in-game data and progress has disappeared. I have tried repairing the game but every time I start it, it leads me to the character creation menu and all my lots and households are not only gone from my game but also from my library.

Renaming the slot_* files in the saves folder doesn't work either.

The TS4 file and TS4_x64 file are files from the Bin folders. These are game installation files that should not be touched and they are located in Program Files (x86) / Origin games / The Sims4 / game

The Saves folder you are looking for should be in the Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 folder. Have you checked your OneDrive?

And now I have a question, did you install Legacy Edition versions of the game? In this case, you should have in Documents> Electronic Arts two-game folders. old folder Sims 4 and a new folder The Sims 4 _LE
Second question: Where did you find these files with your saves? Is there a Saves folder with old files of your saved games inside?

@Symjay1411  Are you having exactly the same issue as the original poster?  If not, please describe your own issue in detail, and let me know whether your computer runs Windows or macOS as well.

@DramaLama21  Please look for any Sims 4 data in OneDrive's version of Documents.  If you find saves or other user data there, you can move the files back to the relevant folders within Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4, and the game should read them.

Please also search your computer for your missing saves.  Open a File Explorer window, click "This PC" in the left panel, and enter Slot_ in the search field in the upper-right corner.  If the search finds any saves, select one and click the "Open file location" menu button, and you'll jump to where that save is, which will hopefully be where the rest of your data is as well.  Here too, just move the files back to the appropriate location and the game should read them.

  • I recently updated my game, and when I opened it, the game had lost all of my game data. When I click on my saves folder, there is nothing in there, nor is there much in any other folders. All of my mods have also been deleted (this is not an immediate issue). I have searched my PC for slot_ and couldn't find anything relating to the sims. Nothing is in OneDrive, and nothing is in my bin. What should I do?

@puzzlezaddict I have done all of these things.

When looking into OneDrive, the only thing that shows up under documents is Document1.

The only thing that shows up under Slot_ is minecraft related things (which I don't play anymore)
    anything else I can do?

@DramaLama21  I'm sorry, but I don't know what to tell you.  Unless you made a manual backup at some point, there's nowhere else to look.

Is it possible that OneDrive tried and failed to upload your files recently?  I've seen cases where it looks like that's what has happened, and the files in question just disappear entirely.  I'm not sure why this happens, only that it seems to happen more frequently than I'd expect.

  • I had this problem after the latest update. The game apparently randomly decided to make a new Sims 4 folder in C:/Documents/Public instead of C:/Documents/User that it had been using previously. So annoying!

  • @Opal04  That can happen if Windows itself changes the location of the Documents directory, or if Sims 4 can't access the Documents directory.   Sims 4 will always try to use the default location of Documents and will only use the Public folder if the default location is unavailable.

If you'd like to troubleshoot this issue, please search for "command prompt" in Windows, open it, and enter this command:

reg query "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders" /v "Personal"

    Then post the result.
