Solved

Sims 4 loads when I click play but never starts

When I click play on the EA app for sims 4 it closes the app out and starts to load like it's going to start the game but it never does. It just takes me back to the play button. I've tried to get rid of cc's/mods, restart, leave it be for a bit, etc. Help would be great!

  • @packingfracking  As a test, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just let me know whether you can get far enough to start a new save and play in live mode for a bit.

If that doesn't help, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

Hey, I'm having same issue as op. Did as you instructed and the game worked and played perfectly. What do i need to do in order to get it to work ? My saves were gone and mods that i had gotten from tsr.

@cutchinsa  You can start transferring your content from the old Sims 4 folder to the new one and testing.  Sort through your mods and custom first; if you have a lot of files to go through, the 50/50 method can make the process much more efficient.

Once you've removed any broken mods or cc, you can move over the contents of the saves and Tray folders and test one more time.  Other than that, you might want to keep Screenshots and Recorded Videos, but the rest is extraneous and will be recreated as necessary, so just ignore everything else.

I started doing this step (I had the same problem as the original poster and the game DID indeed actually launch after creating a new empty file) but I am confused now.

The game was running fine last night. So I removed all the major gameplay mods and all the new CC I had just downloaded this morning and ONLY transferred over the other CC I previously had. Now the game won’t open again. Does this mean the problem may have to do with the old CC, even if it was just working last night? Or is something else the problem? I’m not sure where to go from here. I thought the new CC would’ve been the answer since there was no problem up until then.

@GalactaGemini  It could absolutely be the old cc.  As to why it was working last night but doesn't now, I don't know, but things happen, for example files get corrupted.  The only way to figure this out is to test your old cc.

Thank you for the help, I finally narrowed it down to some bad bathmats! The game is now back to opening for me and is playable. My first successful game fix lol. 🙌

i had the same problem and then i moved it to my desktop and it played perfectly fine but started a whole new game. so i figured it was one of my mods so i moved them all out of my mods folder and put the sims back into EA and played again but none of my saved progress was there, it was still the new game. when i went to go press load previous game, they are all gone. is there anyway i can get my old game and households back? nothing is even in my gallery anymore.

  • @Bbg_roar  Your saves need to be in the saves folder Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4.  Is that where they are now?  If not, please moev them there.  If so, please post a screenshot of the contents of the saves folder, as in, I'd like to see the file names.

I don't know if this has been solved but I'm having the same, I go into San Myshuno, click on my household, press play and it leads me to worlds again and the game actually never starts and repeats. I cleaned out all bad mods and cc, moved my whole folder out and in and restarted my laptop and the game, nothing has worked for the past like 5 hours ++

@ata9tvovz7c1  Moving the Mods folder or the entire Sims 4 folder out doesn't help if you put it back.  Please test with the Sims 4 folder removed and let me know whether you can load a new household in San Myshuno.  If you can, copy over one of your saves, but nothing else yet, and test that too.

If you get an error message, please post a screenshot.
