Sims 4 Massive FPS Drops

I have had issues with the game randomly dropping to 15-20 fps for extended periods of time, sometimes nearly 30 minutes which makes playing difficult. I have lowered resolution and graphics settings to minimum to see if it is simply a matter of the settings in those situations but the fps drop continues to persist. I play on 3840x2160 normally on max settings and get a smooth 60 fps normally (V-sync is on because my monitor caps at 60). The drops happen completely randomly in various circumstances so I haven't been able to pinpoint it to any one thing specifically and it occurs regardless of graphical resolution and settings. However, opening the game options menu will sometimes sort the issue out though not always. I have far more than the minimum specs required to run the game and the problem occurred even with my old pc build. The issue also occurs on different lots regardless of size whether it be Brindleton Bay, Newcrest, Britechester, etc.

I own all current DLC including the most recent kits and I do play with CC though the issue did occur before any CC usage.

Old PC

CPU: Ryzen 7 2700

GPU: Radeon Vega 56

Ram: 16Gb 3000 Hz

Played on max settings at 1920x1080

New PC

CPU: Intel i7 11700k

GPU: Nvidia 3090 FE

Ram: 48Gb 3000 Hz

Playing on max settings at 3840x2160

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I'm inclined at this point to believe that it is simply a game engine issue given that even after my pc upgrade, I continue to have issues.

Edit: The issue also will occur in build mode as well as live mode

Perhaps it´s quite late but I hope you can read this reply. I have several months playing The Sims 4 on PS5 and the FPS drops from time to time. Sometimes is triggered when you enter the character customization, build mode, or you change from stores in your house.

Without any research on my part, I made to find that sometimes the FPS was smooth again after I went to the main menu and back to the game, or I press L1+L2+R1+R2 to enter the console mode.

I´ve seen your replies in multiple sims forums and they are always helpful. Hopefully you can reply back with some sort of idea how to solve or mitigate this issue on the PS5.

@puzzlezaddictback from vacation at last and I was able to test this. It seems to be working. Kinda. I have to test this for a longer period. What's I'm sure about is that Intel limit works, no tearing. FPS drops still occurs, but only short ones, I guess this is normal. No prolonged drops detected so far. Thank you.

  • This has been going on ever since Eco Lifestyle 3 years ago. A modder had a fix for this by resetting something in the UI, because they have a theory this is due to the game constantly trying to find something in the UI but never being able to, which makes the game go insane. I have an RTX-compatible monitor. Neither did the vsync help nor did the fps drops help. It's all to do with the actual game. When this is getting fixed, nobody knows. Truly sucks.

However, I have noticed many times the lag is not as frequent when the localthumbcache file has all thumbnails generated (from foods, outfits, friendship panel images, even the calendar, and the household management), and you restart the game it does seem to help. Probably unrelated but who knows, maybe it'll help the QA team, seeing as they tried to fix it once but just made it happen all the time, not just when switching to build mode.

thepancake1 and MizoreYukii removed the mod and said the problem was fixed. They were obviously mistaken lol.
