sims 4 mods not working

I have downloaded 2 different mods. One is a mermaid mod and one is a fairy mod. I have them in the Mods folder and they are not in a file of their own. They are single script mods or custom content or whatever. I also have all the right things selected in my Sims game menu. I have to go to the build/buy mode and find a mermaid statue or fairy tree in able to become one of them. I also have my cheats on and the show hidden content cheat AND the ignore gamplay cheat. For some reason I still cannot find this stupid tree/statue... I am at a loss and am desperate for help!!
