Sims 4 not opening

When I try to open the Sims 4, it either doesn't open or only opens the EA app. I tried all the suggested things, restarted my computer, and even deleted and redownloaded the game. Is there anything else I should try? I tried opening the game through both Steam and the EA app but both only open up the EA app and never open the game. I have CCs, if that might be part of the issue.

  • @Ur_m0ms_fav95  Try opening the EA App first, and specifically run it as an admin: right-click the desktop shortcut and select "Run as administrator."  Try to launch Sims 4 from within the App.

If that doesn't help, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just let me know whether you can get far enough to start a new save and play in live mode for a bit.

If that doesn't help either, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

I did that, and it let me launch and play the game without crashing at all. What do I do now to get my saves and mods back?

@Ur_m0ms_fav95  You can transfer your content to the new Sims 4 folder and test it out to see what is and isn't working.  Start with the contents of your Mods folder, which is likely to be where the problem is.  Here's a list of mods and custom content known to be broken after the latest patch:

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/Mods-CC-Issues/Broken-Obsolete-and-Updated-Sims-4-Mods-1-110-October-22-2024/td-p/14181798

For everything else, you'll need to test yourself.  The 50/50 method can make the process more efficient when you have a lot of files:

Once you've sorted through your mods and cc, you can transfer your saves, Tray files (saved households and builds), and Screenshots and Recorded Videos if you care about those.  The rest can be discarded.
