Sims 4 stopping network/internet connection on PC

This week I started having internet connection problems and have narrowed it down to it happening ONLY when Sims 4 is running.

My internet connection on my PC is fine and stable until launching Sims 4, and then all internet connection activity (browser, discord, speed tests, and sims itself) is stopped and my PC loses it's network connection. This remains the case no matter what I do until I close Sims 4 and then my network connection is restored (Netflix starts to play again, discord conversations update, etc.)

I have already:

1) Power cycled my modem multiple times

2) Confirmed continued internet connectivity on other devices

3) Contacted my ISP and checked the modem connection from their end

4) Upgraded my internet service to provide more bandwidth *just in case*

5) Repaired the game through Origin

6) Confirmed that I am not default launching into Legacy Edition

I found this solved help topic from a couple years ago that seems to match my problems:

Solution appears to be related to Legacy Edition being installed, even though it's not in use. Any ideas on how to remove it ?

Is anyone else having this problem since the most recent update?

  • @Psiren_East  You could try simply deleting the Legacy Edition data within the game's program files.  Make sure Origin isn't set to automatically update your games (Application Settings > Application > Client update), or it'll redownload the LE either the next time you open Origin or the next time you launch the game.

If that doesn't fix the issue, you could try uninstalling Sims 4 and reinstalling without the LE.  In this case, Origin will likely try to reinstall the LE files when you launch the game even if you have auto updates disabled, so as soon as you do launch it, alt-tab to Origin and cancel the download.  Origin may also try to reinstall the LE after a game update.

The only way to ensure the LE never installs again is to have someone from EA customer support remove it from your account; that's not something you can do from your end.

You could also try putting Origin in offline mode before you play.  I don't know enough about this particular issue to know whether it would prevent the PC from losing its network connection, but it's easy enough to try.

  • I recently started having this issue about 2 months ago when I decided to start playing The Sims 4 again. Now I can't stream in Discord or Twitch without dealing with any lagging issues, and it's genuinely frustrating. I had just spoke with someone in the EA Help Chat, and they couldn't help me either despite me linking the same thread that seemingly held a solution. All I know is that I just want to be able to use the internet with my game no matter what. 💔

@MannaStyles  A couple questions:  Is your computer lagging overall, or just Sims 4, or is it just that your internet connection is slow?  Does it help if you put Origin or the EA App in offline mode?  You wouldn't be able to use the Gallery, but the game would otherwise run the same.  And does this happen only when you're trying to stream, or any time you're playing?

  • Having the same issue on my PS4 Pro. Bought and downloaded Sims 4 via PSN. This problem began soon after I installed "Werewolves" and the game updated shortly thereafter. Since the problem gets worse with each update it seems this is where the problem truly lies. The internet connection functionality of the game has become very unstable and unless it is sorted out properly the game will be completely unplayable. By "properly" I mean stop with the bandaid patches and completely rewrite this part of the app so it can function.

That is my two cents for what it's worth.

  • Having the same issue on PC, although it's not from LE - I verified that it was never installed on this computer, but my game is definitely having an identical problem to what was described. Starting in Offline Mode didn't help, unfortunately. ☹️

Hi @immortellie , I'm closing this thread since it's a bit old to prevent necroposting. Feel free to open a new thread in the forums if you still need help!
