Sims 4 stuck on household loading screen

I'm having a problem. My Sims 4 (downloaded via origin) game is not working. I can press "play game" on origin and it loads up until the world map, but when I want to play a specific household it stays on the  loading screen. I have tried restarting my computer, logging in and out of origin, right-clicking The Sims 4 and fixing it,  trying to pick a different household than the one I want to play, and even a clean boot for windows 8!!
I don't know what to do at this point or where to find the help. My game isn't having any crashes or screen blackouts, I just can't get past the loading screen when I try to play a certain family.
I really don't know if it is just a problem with my computer, the update or company.
**Side note: I really DO NOT want to uninstall the game, in fear that I'll lose my progress on the challenge that I currently am in. Unless there is a way to resart the game w/out losing progress, I'm all ears!**
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Jodie
  • At the moment you don't know if the game itself or the user data is causing the problem. If you follow this link reset TS4 game this can tell you if the game is corrupt or if the user data is causing the problem. How much free space is on your system drive? Insufficient free space can cause a problem if the game is trying to write temp files. If you back up your user data you can copy the data back but if that is what is causing the problem and you don't want to loose the data you'll have to figure out the specific item and correct that.

Well, if you’re playing on Mac, you can usually put your mouse on the bottom of the screen and the tool bar will pop up. Click chrome or any thing on the tool bar. You will be exited out of the Sims, but the game is still running. Then you can click on the apple symbol, scroll to force quit and then restart your game. I hope this helped!

  • Some people have found that the problem fixes itself if you update Master Commander (MCCC) or whatever it's called now. I'm about to try that!
  • Hi um so I will start with I will make my sims family with cc and all but when I go to get a household it just loads and loads and loads.

  • Do you have any mods or custom content (CC) in your game? Could you test without?
You can just move the folder to a location outside the Electronic Arts folder.
If the game works without your CC and mods in, your issue is probably caused by a broken mod or CC.
You can find a full list of broken/incompatible CC and mods since the Seasons expansion pack over here:
    https://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discussion/941998/broken-updated-mods-seasons-june-2018-patch

If it still doesn't work I suggest taking out half of your mods and CC and testing the game. Then keep splitting until you find all that is broken.
Either update or remove the broken CC/mods.

  • I am having the same issue as well. I do have mods and everything. The only strange thing is, I cannot play a specific household, while I can play other households I personally created. I do not want to ruin this save file, as this sim is "nearly perfect", and I don't want to truck through all that grinding again. Is it still a mod breaking the game, or the actual save file, and I need to dig through an older file in order for it to work?...

    Hi @Zoey50451Rockz

the easiest way to find out is to rename your user folder and let the game create a new one. Once done so, copy the save file from your renamed folder to the newly created one and check if it then loads.

If it does, then it's a mod that's causing the issue (or the cache files) and you need to find out what it is by putting back your cc/mods in groups

If it doesn't, it's some save game corruption on that save for that household. Try if you can evict the family from the map view and place them again.

Once you found the cause, you can go back to the original copy of your save so you don't loose your cc used and either re-apply the fix you found or remove mods/cc that don't work anymore.

@mrbugboe Does it load if you remove your mods ?

Finding which mod causes it, is really the only thing you can do.

Just follow advice given in this thread.
