Sims 4 suddenly crashes

@ripcintalol  Try and get it to run with recommended settings. However, I had to change mines to be compatible for Windows 7... even though I am on Windows 10.

• Make sure Origin is closed.
• Go to your "<Drive">:\Origin Games 2\The Sims 4\__Installer\vc\vc2010sp1\redist" folder.
• Run the "vcredist_x64.exe" as administrator. (Right click the exe > Run as administrator.)
• To te same with the "vcredist_x86.exe"
• Go to your "<Drive">:\Origin Games 2\The Sims 4\__Installer\vc\vc2013\redist" folder.
• Run the "vcredist_x64.exe" as administrator. (Right click the exe > Run as administrator.)
• To the same with the "vcredist_x86.exe"
• Restart your PC > Test.

@ripcintalol  Before you do anything else, please download the recent update, if you haven't already.  When it's done, repair the game for good measure: open your Origin game library, right-click on the Sims 4 icon, and select Repair.  If you get an error while repairing, clear Origin's cache, restart your computer, and try again.

Please try playing in a clean user data folder.  Move your entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  Don't add anything to this folder yet; just start a new save and see whether the game crashes.  If it does, let me know how long into the play session it crashed and what was happening in-game at the time.

If you do get a crash, please try playing while your computer is not connected to the internet.  Sign into Origin and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi and/or disconnect the ethernet cable.

@ripcintalol  Okay, just to be clear, if you create a new admin user account on your computer, and you play in that account, does the game work at first?  And if so, does it then crash only if you don't delete your cache and lastexception files?

@ripcintalol  Okay, if the game works in the new admin account, that strongly suggests that the issue is some setting, or perhaps some data, in the old account.  You can move your Sims 4 content from the old account to the new one if you want and play in that.  If you'd rather keep using the old account, it's probably also feasible, but it might be difficult to pinpoint the problem, as you've seen from the length of this thread so far.  (Unless you happened to use nonstandard characters in the username in the old account, in which case that's an obvious problem with an easy fix.)

@ripcintalol  There are a few different approaches.  One is to drop the files in the Public version of Documents.  Right-click on the Sims 4 folder and select Copy.  Open a File Explorer window, click This PC > Local Disk (C) > Users > Public > Public Documents, right-click in the empty space, and select Paste.

Another approach is to copy the files you want to keep onto an external hard drive or USB stick.  It's useful to have a backup copy of your Sims 4 data on an external device in general, in case something happens to your files (or your computer) and you lose the internal copies.  You could also use a free cloud storage service (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.) for the same purposes, both transferring files now and creating backups for later.

In any case, please transfer the files themselves, not the folders they're in, for example copy the individual saves to the new saves folder rather than moving over the entire old saves folder.  It's fine to initially move the entire old Sims 4 folder to the new account at once; I'm just saying once that folder is in the new user account, it's best to copy the files into the new Sims 4 folder rather than moving the folders themselves.

@ripcintalol  Is that before or after you moved some content to your new user account?  How long into this play session did you get a crash, and how many play sessions have you had in this new user account?

@ripcintalol  You don't need to transfer those files at all.  They're not supposed to be read by the game once created.  If you can play fine without their being present, then I would leave them where they are.
