Sims 4 Takes Forever to Load and locks up computer on close

Hello. I’m getting pretty frustrated again. I’m sick of the new EA app and I miss playing sims on origin but I refuse to play there now since I won’t get game updates or new packs that way.  I am ...

    @smilelikemiles  If you restart your computer and wait five minutes, do you see any Adobe-related entries in the Task Manager's background processes list?  If so, can you end these services without them restarting on their own?

    There's also a more aggressive way to stop a service from starting with Windows, or on its own in general.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "msconfig" without quotes, click the Services tab, check the box to hide Microsoft services, and uncheck the box next to anything you don't want running.  The catch here is that you might need to reenable these services when you want to use the associated apps, which could be inconvenient if you're using Adobe frequently.  But at least this works for testing purposes.

@smilelikemiles  There are two places to look for OneDrive interference.  One is by right-clicking the little cloud icon in the lower-right corner of your screen.  If it's not there, OneDrive isn't running at all.  If it is, you can right-click and choose Settings > Backup, and you'll see which folders OneDrive is backing up.  Please check the free and total OneDrive storage, under Settings > Account, as well.

The other thing to check is the location of Documents.  Right-click the Documents icon in the left panel of a File Explorer window, then choose Properties > General, and look for the Location.  Let me know whether OneDrive is in the file path or not.

Hi I figured it out. I checked everything for One Drive and all is clear with that. Sorry my laptop was updating.

    @smilelikemiles  Your dxdiag lists two Windows update errors and a few other generic Windows errors, so please start with a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files:

    • Hit Windows key-X
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
    • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes, and enter
    • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
    • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
    • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator)”
    • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes, and enter
    • Post the message you receive here

    Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the box to check for updates.  If any install, restart again afterwards.

    Before trying to play, please disable any Adobe-related processes running in the Task Manager, including in the background services list.  You should be able to tell what they are from the logo.  Your dxdiag also shows that something called AGSService is crashing, and according to google, that checks for valid licenses for your Adobe content.  There's no reason that should be running while you're not using Adobe software, and anything at all crashing in the background can cause problems for other apps the computer is trying to run.

    If the above doesn't help, please let me know whether your Documents folder has OneDrive in its file path.  From your reply, I'm not sure whether the answer is no or just that OneDrive is running fine.

      Well I ended up playing because today is the only day I’m gonna be able to play for a while. It’s working ok right now. 

      as for one drive, I don’t see anything related to one drive as you asked me about above. I don’t see any cloud icon and my location of my documents is not in one drive so I’m confused by what you mean. I don’t see one drive anywhere. 

      I am not sure why every windows update I have always throws errors….. I feel like this is always more trouble then it’s worth

        @smilelikemiles  If OneDrive isn't present at all, that's fine and also one less thing to worry about.

        Adobe apparently runs some background process that checks for licenses for a lot of users if not everyone.  Maybe some people buy the base software but pirate the add-ons?  I don't really know, but the fact that this process is running on your computer doesn't mean you've done anything wrong, only that Adobe has built some anti-piracy software into the program itself.

        The point of shutting down the Adobe-related processes in the Task Manager is to test the game.  If this helps, then you might only need to prevent Adobe from starting with Windows, which it may have set itself to do.  (You can check in the Task Manager's Startup tab.)  Since it's not clear from your dxdiag why Sims 4 is running so badly compared to what you'd expect, fixing it might take some experimentation.  There are other ways to prevent software from opening too; whether one of these is right for you depends on how often you use Adobe.

      Also why would it be looking for licenses? A few months ago I had an issue where my Adobe payment didn’t go through so my services were not useable but I was able to get it working without canceling my subscription after calling them and doing the payment through PayPal instead. 

      I got rid of one Adobe thing by ending the task but there’s other Adobe stuff that doesn’t have a logo but does ending task in task manager just end it and I will have to do that every time I go on my laptop? I don’t see a disable option
