SIMS 4 This Code Has Already been Used

I just went and bought The Sims 4 on retail (hooray, finally!) 

unwrapped the case, danced around a bit, put the disc in my laptop, ran origin, went to put the activation code in and it says that the code has already been used. WTF.

I've looked on similar questions and tried all the solutions such as making sure it's my origin account, reloading my games, changing it to all games instead of downloaded and the game is nowhere to be found.

If anyone could help out it would be a great help.  I get the feeling a random code generator has created this code and unfortunately caused the one inside my box to be rendered useless
