Sims 4: "Unrecognized Video Card." How do I fix it?

I am posting this for a friend. 

My friend has played the Sims 4 on a new laptop for... I'd say about two months, however, she has played the game on a different laptop since 2016. She was playing, and then randomly her game gave her a little error message (with no error code):

Unrecognized Video Card

Your video card was not found in our database. Your graphics settings have been set as high as possible, but you may wish to reduce them if you are experiencing poor performance. 

Since then (she has not touched her graphics settings) she played and found it to be frustratingly laggy. This was late last night, so she's been asleep since then. She hasn't gotten back to me on the type of graphics she has, but I will hopefully hear from her soon. Should she just alter her graphics settings in the game (I will have her try that) or should she go into her actual graphics settings and choose some other kind of video card? Or am I just a total idiot like I have been in past questions lol and is the answer quite easy?

I would appreciate any help, and as soon as possible. Thank you!
