I had this EXACT same problem. It happens after the big 5GB update.
There is another update that Origin doesn't inform you about, it's an update that's about 1GB.
In your game library on Origin, right click The Sims and click "Update Game".
Wait for it to update and launch it again. It seems like it freezes up at first but it will go into the spinning logo after a little bit, and then to the main screen. 🙂
I waited for about 5-10 minutes and it was still stuck on the same screen even after I updated the game again ☹️
