Sims 4 won't install

Installing of the sims 4 is not working. I have a paid copy with expansions that i've played without issues over the years.
It does not give me an error code, just suggests i try later. EA, origin and steam are linked. i have a 600MB connection, no VPN, no antivirus, administrator account. I meet the system requirements etc. I've attached a DXdiag.

I've tried:
-reinstalling EA app
-Install only base game
-Install with DLC
-administrator
-turn off UAC
-Turn off EA app, turn off the process, and also turn it off in MSCONFIG, then reboot, turn it on again
-change permissions on the C drive
-Putting an empty .exe file in the folder where sims 4 should be (doesn't recognize it)
-Different folder
-Root folder of C
-different drive
-Install through steam (free version) and try to run it (error: you do not have access)
-install steam, open EA app and try to install DLC from there (the dlc will install but can still not play)
-Install steam, move it to the EA folder, open with EA (you do not have access)
-Clearing cache

Please help, this is getting quite frustrating.

(i will edit this with all things i have tried as i go along)

  • Hello,

I'm experiencing issues with launching "The Sims 4" through Steam and downloading it directly from the EA app. Despite having the game on my Steam account and the accounts being linked, the game fails to launch, indicating that I don't own it. Additionally, when attempting to download the game directly through the EA app, I encounter a download error.

    Steps I've Tried:

    • Reinstalling the EA app.
    • Checking firewall and VPN settings.
    • Restarting my computer.
    • Disabling VPN.
    • Clearing EA app cache.
    • Killing the EABackgroundService in Task Manager.

Unfortunately, none of these solutions have resolved the issue. EA’s customer support options are limited, and I haven’t been able to submit a ticket for personalized assistance.

I'm reaching out to the community for any additional insights or solutions. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

  • @Shortono  What message do you see when you try to install Sims 4 through the EA App?  There are a couple of known errors with installing Sims 4.

The Steam "you don't have access" error seems to be a current issue across many EA games owned in Steam.  Given how suddenly it appeared, it might disappear soon too; these types of issues do tend to be cleared up rather quickly.  So the easiest path might be waiting a few hours to a day for the Steam version to start working.  But if that doesn't happen, you'd rather play through the EA App, let me know about the App's download error.

@rojmeister1  I've merged your post with another thread covering the same issues.  Please see the above.

There are no error codes, just suggests i try later. this is also what i find so frustrating.

In the steam version it suggested my version was not compatible, because my EA play version is the digital deluxe (?)

I can't reproduce it now, so sorry that I cannot add the error message. After my last attempts the install seemed to go through but was not downloading anything.

I cancelled it all, started to install through steam, stopped the download and turned off my machine. After about 12 hours I turned it on again, tried to install though the EA app (which worked, with the steam install being at about 80% or so) and I quickly uninstalled the steam version.

Now the game works, but I don't know what solved the issue, my apologies to people reading this later.

@Shortono  The Steam error seems to have been resolved, and the EA App error may have been as well, although there were fewer reports so I'm not entirely sure.  At any rate, the important thing is that your game works.  And there's no need to apologize; the error message would have been for the purpose of helping you, and you don't need that help now.
