Sims 4 won't run after updating to Windows 11

My game is doing the exact same - I haven't been able to play for months! Since my laptop updated to windows 11 😭 maybe it's just too old??

I've attached my DxDiag in case anyone is able to take a look!

  • kikibay  I've split your post into its own thread because it's easier (for me) to troubleshoot with one person per thread at a time.

What happens when you try to play?  Please describe what you see, and include a screenshot of any error message that appears.

Please also try playing in DirectX 11 mode.  If you've specified DX9 mode in the EA App, remove -dx9 from the command line box under Sims 4 > Manage > View properties.  If you've chosen DX9 mode in the graphics options, uncheck the box, unless you can't get that far, in which case open Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 and delete Options.ini.

If you still can't play, please look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent Sims 4 crash.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

  • i moved the sims 4 folder to desktop it opened but everything is gone

  • xXMrsRileyXx  This is an EA App error, not from Sims 4.  If you're still seeing this issue, uninstall the EA App with Revo Uninstaller (the free version is fine).  Use the Advanced scanning method when asked.  Restart your computer, download a fresh copy of the App installer, and run it.

If you don't see this error anymore, and it sounds from your other post (moved to this thread) that you might not, but your saves are still gone, remember that they're in the Sims 4 folder you moved to the desktop.  You can move them to the new Sims 4 folder the game has created in Documents > Electronic Arts and see whether the game still works.  Saves are in the saves folder, naturally, and it's best to move the individual files, not the folder they're in.
