@haslonscc That's usually some kind of routing problem or something being stuck somewhere where the Sims can't get to. They try to reach it, can't and just cancel the action.
Check your house for trash, laundry and dishes in inaccessible places (shelves, behind locked doors, ..) and move those manually, then try again.
