@ppdestroyer42069 Restart your computer and clear Origin's cache:
https://help.ea.com/en/help/faq/clear-cache-to-fix-problems-with-your-games/
If you get an error when trying to clear the cache, go through the Task Manager shutting down any processes that mention Origin or have its or EA's logo, then try again.
I followed the instructions and now I’m able to press the buttons in origin. However when I press play, the game isn’t opening. I’ve been waiting for a while and still, the game isn’t opening. In task manager, it says the game is running.
And after I press play, the buttons are grayed out again, whether or not I close the game in task manager.

@ppdestroyer42069 Please move your entire Sims 4 user folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop. When you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content. Don't add anything to it yet; just see whether you can get far enough to start a new save and play in live mode for a bit.
If you get an error when trying to move the folder, please post a screenshot. If moving the folder is fine but you still can't play, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

I tried moving it and I'm receiving this error message. I attached a screenshot.

Okay, update. So I tried clearing the cache and then moving the folder again and I was successful. I can now open the game and I played a little and it seems to be working.
What should my next step be?
Is there a way I can transfer things like my save data/households?
(Thank you for your help btw. I greatly appreciate it)

@ppdestroyer42069 Yes, you can certainly move your saves (in the saves folder) and saved households and builds (in Tray) to the new Sims 4 folder. Here's a description of everything else in the user folder, so you know what you'd want to keep:

It's best to only move what you need and leave behind anything that the game will regenerate when necessary.
If you move over some files and you find you can't play again, stop there and let me know which files caused the issue as well as any error you see.
