What file are you referring to? What changes are you trying to make?
Don't touch resource.cfg file as mentioned above! It is not to edit or open now! It has already set three levels for subfolders but you have to remember the scripts mods need the first level.
I don't work for EA
- Psychotps6 years agoSeasoned Ace@kreatora Just trying to figure out what file they're referring to. They didn't specify. Although the resource.cfg is the only text file in the mods dir that the base game creates. But the user has mods, and mods can use other text files that might crash the game if configured incorrectly.

Sorry, I should address it to @omgyamisocringe Y.
She wrote that she can play the game just fine if she doesn't try to touch this txt file. So all other files were working properly.
She was referring to a resource.cfg. If you are using many levels of subfolders in the mods folder you can to open this file with notepad and change the number of levels the game will read in this folder. She had no reason to touch another file

@Psychotps I've added mods before even deciding to edit the resource.cfg file, but I didn't see them show on CAS or the main menu screen. I would understand if I didn't at first check the script&cc box before restarting my game. First, I left it the way it came, but then I changed the format, but still nothing happened (besides the error I showed).

@omgyamisocringe
If you still have the old game folder, delete followings files: ReticulatedSplinesView file and Reticulated Splines file.
Find the same files in your old game folder and paste them in the new folder. After this, you will able to see mods and CC in the main menu screen and CAS. But let the game create a new resource.CFGOtherwise, you will have to disable mods and play a few minutes in the old safe without mods. Save and exit the game. Only now add mods and enable these options. This should help.

@omgyamisocringeAs long as you don't place ANY mod files or scripts more than ONE folder deep, all of your mods will load just fine.
Keep it simple! If you have Hair CC mods, put them in MODS\HAIR
If you have EYE mods, put them in MODS\EYES
If you have clothing mods, put them in MODS\CLOTHING
Etc...
Keep it simple like that and you'll never have a problem.Personally, my mods folder has 34 folders in the MODS directory. All my mods are in those 34 folders... all 1,420 of them. Not a single one more than 1 folder deep.

@omgyamisocringe Ok, this is what I would do to clear it up once and for all... It'll take some time but it's for the best...
1) Go into your MODS directory and DELETE the file resource.cfg
2) Take your entire MODS folder and move it somewhere else like your desktop. Make sure there is NO mods folder left in the old directory, so the mods folder itself is completely gone.
3) Run the game.
- Step 3 will automatically create a new MODS folder and resource.cfg file.
4) Quit the game.
5) Create new directories in the new {empty} mods folder such as...
CLOTHING
HAIR
EYES
DECOR
etc
6) Go through all the directories in the old mods folder on your desktop and copy all the .package and .ts4script and such files into the new directories in your mods folder.
7) DO NOT MODIFY or REPLACE THE RESOURCE.CFG FILE.
8) Run the game - Once loaded make sure to turn on mods and scripts (if you have any) in the options.
9) Quit and re-load the game.
It should work.
