System specs

Hello, I am considering buying Sims 4 with most DLCS and I wanna know if the game can run smoothly on

I7 4790K
GTX 980
16gb ram

and if yes can I install mods or will that lag it

  • @Spaticv  Sims 4 should run quite well in general on your system.  The game does lag sometimes even on the strongest hardware, that's just how runs these days, but it's mostly manageable.

As far as mods go, some of them do cause lag to a certain degree—it depends on what they do and when, for example if they're adding a bunch of calculations to the game engine all at once.  The best thing to do is to add mods slowly and test, making sure you don't see too drastic a performance hit.  And check each mod to see whether it's updated for the current patch level.

You can also ask about specific mods either here or (even better) on the official Sims forums.  Other users of those mods will let you know what you can expect.

@Spaticv  With just the game itself, all packs included but no mods or custom content, you should be able to play on ultra graphics settings with plenty of room to spare.  Even with custom content, that may not change—a lot of cc is no more demanding than EA-made items and wouldn't affect performance other than slightly increasing the initial loading time.  High-poly cc can be much more demanding though, and there's enough of it on-screen at one time, it's possible you might notice some slowdowns.  It's also possible you wouldn't; it just depends on how much you use and how many polygons are being rendered at once.

It's fine to experiment a bit with settings and cc and decide what to do once you have enough data.  As long as your computer's components are capable of cooling themselves properly, you're not really risking anything.

Script mods don't affect graphics rendering, they add to the processor's load.  But in this case, the limiting factor is the game engine, not your CPU, and the game engine has its limitations, as I mentioned before.  Tuning mods shouldn't affect performance at all.
