Hi there! Different player than who originally posted but I was having the same issue. I tried this and now all my saves are gone. I'm new to the game so I probably just messed something up. (The second method)
Its completely normal for your saves to be gone since you essentially forced your game to start from scratch. To prevent this before deleting or doing whatever with your original "The Sims 4" folder you can copy the "saves" folder somewhere else to make sure you don't lose them. Then after the game has created it's own new folder you just move the files from your old backed up "saves" file into the freshly created "saves" folder and everything should work as expected with all your saves still being there!
I just tried that method as well since the holiday pack didn't let me download it but my saves said they required said pack and it worked for me! Even with the EA App that method is still more than valid for anyone wondering if it still works with the new Launcher!
