The Sims 4 is laggy

My Sims 4 game is very laggy and delayed. The Sims stand there for a couple of seconds before taking action. It's laggy like this in all of my households and the worlds too. I tried to lower my graphics. I had them on Ultra before and my game ran quite smoothly. I changed them to medium-low but it was still very laggy. I don't have any mods in my game I took them out.

  • 1tsmekb  Please restart your computer, wait five minutes without opening anything, and then open the Task Manager and see how much Memory is in use.  It'll show as a percentage.  If it's more than 50%, click the Startup icon and use Windows key-shift-S to capture the list of applications.  Please post that screenshot here.

Either way, please open Sims 4, but nothing else (aside from the EA App), and see how a new save runs.  If it's still laggy, restart your computer and repeat the test, except this time with your computer offline.  You can sign into the EA App and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi and/or disconnect the ethernet cable before pressing Play.

  • 1tsmekb  Does this happen in a brand-new save too?  Please test and let me know.

If the new save is affected, please provide a dxdiag.  Hit Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

  • 1tsmekb  If you'd like to figure out how to play with an internet connection, we can keep trying to troubleshoot the issue.  The next step would be to play with your computer online but the EA App itself in offline mode, to see whether that helped or not.  You can also try playing with the App online but Online Social Features disabled.  The setting is in Options > Game Options > Other, and you'd need to quit and restart after changing the setting to see the effects.

Okay, I tried the first method, and the second method didn't either.

I kept the Online Social Features disabled and went into offline mode, which worked.

  • 1tsmekb  Then that's a reasonable interim solution.  It will cut off your access to the Gallery, but you can reenable Online Social Features when you want to use the Gallery and disable it again afterwards.  There have been a handful of reports about this feature causing lag, so hopefully EA will fix it sooner or later.

Okay, I reset my laptop and turned off the Wi-Fi, and my game didn't lag anymore. It worked, thank you.
