The Sims 4 lagging

Hello there.

I have had Sims for years. I have always played on the highest settings with only occasionally lagging which was always solved with restarting the computer. Then I bought new laptop better one that the one before. For a while game was running perfectly fine but now every world except strangerville is really laggy. I have tried everything I could think of: I deleted mods, deleted cache but nothing helped. Then I tried reinstalling the game. Installing the Sims 4 base game only and still no improvement. I have no idea what else to try.

Can somebody help me?

It listed Nvidia. :D I did some digging on my own, tried uninstalling some programmes I rarely used, optimized my SSD and HDD and some other thing. I don't know what finally did it but my game works fine. :D Thank you so much for your help. :D

  • @Twillower  Please make sure OneDrive isn't set to automatically sync Documents with cloud storage.  Even if you think OneDrive is disabled entirely, it could have been reenabled by a Windows update, and it was definitely active enough to throw a couple of errors.  Here's how to manage its settings:

    https://support.office.com/en-us/article/choose-which-onedrive-folders-to-sync-to-your-computer-98b8b011-8b94-419b-aa95-a14ff2415e85

If that doesn't help, move your entire Sims 4 user data folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  Don't add anything to it yet; just start a new save and test.  Let me know how it goes.

If the game still lags, please open the Task Manager and kill SmartByte Network Service.  It will restart when you reboot, but this is an easy test for now.

If none of that makes a difference, please let me know, and run another dxdiag.

@Twillower  Your dxdiag has a bunch of new Windows errors related to network diagnostics.  Are you running any diagnostic tests, or getting any errors related to your internet connection?  If so, please let me know what you're doing and/or post a screenshot of the error(s).

Otherwise, please run a couple of basic checks on your Windows system files.  Here's how:

    • Hit Windows key-X
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
    • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes into the window, and enter
    • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
    • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
    • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator)”
    • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes into the window, and enter
    • Post the message you receive here

Please also try playing, again a new save in a clean folder, while your computer is not connected to the internet.  Let me know whether the lag is gone.

I don't know what's up with those NPCs, sorry.

So, where i live the internet always around 6-8 disconnects. I'm not sure when it happened yesterday. Normally says DNS server is not responding.

    I tried those checks.

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
    Version: 10.0.18362.1

    Image Version: 10.0.18362.836

    [==========================100.0%==========================]

    PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
    Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.
    PS C:\WINDOWS\system32>

I have tried playing without internet but it didnt help.

@Twillower  Please make sure Sims 4 is using your dedicated graphics card.  Go into Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4, open the file labeled config.log, and look for the card the game lists, about 25 lines down.  If it lists the Intel HD 620 rather than the Nvidia 1060, let me know.
