The Sims 4 Mac

Hello. I have an Early 2014 model MacBook Air. I've noticed, that the Minimum Mac Version Specifications have been posted.

They Say:

Macintosh System Requirements for The Sims 4
MINIMUM OS: Mac OS® X 10.7.5 (Lion) CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz Processor or better
RAM: At least 4 GB RAM
HARD DRIVE: At least 10 GB of free space with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content and saved games
VIDEO: NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT, ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro or better. Video RAM of 256MB or better
INPUT: Keyboard and Mouse
ONLINE REQUIREMENTS: Internet connection required for product activation.

I have:

OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite

4GB of RAM

209GB Free space

Intel HD Graphics 5000 1536 MB

Apple Mouse and built in keyboard

A wi-fi connection

The problem is, that I have a 1,4GHz Intel i5 processor, that can be Turbo Boost'ed up to 2,7GHz, but it's still not the Intel core 2 Duo. Also I have the Intel HD Graphics 5000 1536MB. Will The Sims 4 still work? Please Reply. This is important

  • Really not a mac specialist but I think you should be fine processor wise i5 > duo and if it can be turbo boosted to 2.7 that is also more than needed.

The Intel Chip on the other hand could be an issue. It does seem to have more than the required 256 MB of dedicated memory but on PC many people with Intel Chips have issues. You probably won't be able to play on highest settings but in my Opinion it should work.

I'm pretty sure the Great Game Guarantuee will also apply to Macs so you can try it out for 24 hours and if it doesn't work well, give it back for a refund.

  • Never trust Mac, my Macbook Pro 13" would run Sims 3 fine.
It did not, I needed an 15" because they have differents specs.
For me it has always been a guess. With your Intel card, I'm not sure.
I had an Intel HD Graphics 3000, and playing the game sucked.

It could be that Sims 4 will run fine, but it could be it starts freezing, quiting, or not even starting.
I would wait till people tried the game on your video card to buy the game.

Just to support what crinrict has said here, the Intel HD 5000 series of graphics chips are much stronger than the older generations of which other simmers have had issues with in the past.

The only problem I could see there being is that the video memory for the graphics chip could be entirely shared memory (I don't know specifically for this Mac), and I believe the requirements for Mac is referring to 256MB of dedicated video memory.

I hope this helps and keep simming,

    Cody
