the sims 4 new computer

I'm thinking about getting a new computer instead of playing Sims 4 on my laptop, which apparently doesn't have the greatest video or graphics card or whatever. This is what I want to do:

  • I want my base game and all expansion packs to be able to transfer to the new computer. (Note: Does it make a difference that my base game was from a disc and my expansion packs were by download code?)
  • I want to transfer all my save data, mostly I'm worried about not having to make all my sims and lots over again. I'm assuming I can just copy my Electronic Arts or Sims 4 file folder to the new computer and transfer the save data that way.

It's a simple enough question, I think. Please don't give me a 2-sentence response or send me a link. I'm not following a strange link. I just want a simple step-by-step.

Thank you!

  • Just install Origin on your new computer, and log in with the account you used to install the base game on.
Under the 'My Games' tab The Sims 4 should be ready to be installed.

    To download your expansions:
    - Go to the 'my games' tab in Origin.
    - Hover over your 'The Sims 4'.
You'll see a little screen come up with an 'i' and a 'play/download/install' button.
    - Click on the 'i', you'll be taken to a different screen.
    - Scroll a bit down and there you'll see all your expansions, game packs and stuff packs.

    - Download them through there.

For you saves, you indeed need the Electronic Arts folder in the Documents folder.

If you feel unsure about what you need to copy: http://sims4.crinrict.com/en/2014/09/backups/ (not a strange link, this is the site of a fellow hero, named Crinrict, on this forum).

@ArfaF52 First tell us if your computer is a pc or mac and then tell us what the problem is. Please tag the person you want to respond as we (well I am) busy and may be answering someone else. Many people here are more then happy to help IF they can.

As far as your saves disappearing it may be that you syncing the documents folder with OneDrive. I turned OneDrive off but make sure you are saving to local drive.

I tried hovering over my game but nothing is happening. I have the sims 4 on my Xbox and I have at least 5 expansion packs on there, but I don’t know how to get the expansion packs to download on my computer without re-purchasing them. Can somebody please explain?

@Soko0810  Packs don't transfer between console and computer, sorry.  So if you want to play on your PC, you'll need to buy the content again.
