The sims4 update taking up too much space

Hi I bought the sims4 on steam been playing it for hours really fun . Um  what  I don’t understand is why an update is taking up so much space. I haven’t bought any EP  and just been playing boring old base game .

I recently decided to play yesterday when I realised the game can’t be played unless it’s updated , so I went to update the game mind u I already had the game installed which took up 18GB okay fine I have that.

BUT IT NEEDS ANOTHER 18 GB just to update the base game wtf is EA updating the souls of the NPCs ??

yooo I understand if they said 5 or 6 GB but 18 GB to update the base game with no EP or mods or anything involved??? U have to be kidding me and then I can’t play the game without updating it I should be able too why is that not a thing ??? What should I do I miss my sims this is getting frustrating.

  • @jjkiaa44659  Did Steam actually download 18 GB of data?  Often enough, Origin will say it's downloading the entire amount but then only check that those files are present before downloading and applying a much smaller update.  I don't have the game through Steam, so I can't check whether it works the same way, but it's entirely possible.

If you're not sure how much space Sims 4 currently occupies, you can check: open the game's install location, which for Steam games is usually:

    Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common

Right-click on the Sims 4 folder and select Properties.

The game cannot be played through Steam on a Mac. Do you mean Origin or are you on a Windows machine and mistakenly posted in the Mac forum?
