"there was an error saving this lot to library"

i made separate saves for two sets of characters i made and that sucks because i want them to interact, i didnt realize a different save meant different game entirely. saving the CHARACTERS to the library worked but... it won't save either of the houses i made to the library. i really don't want to spend a million * painstaking hours rebuilding either one of them again. un-* believable dude

and no, i don't have mods installed. i don't have custom content installed, it's just me and the base game. i have two hard drives and the one EA and Sims are installed on still have 300 out of a terabyte of gigs left and the other one is a solid state drive with more space on it. i don't know if that truly effects things because i still have space left, but maybe its important in this case.

thanks in advance

  • hi!!! i'm back to say I found a solution for the issue!! I found something on forum.thesims.com and it worked! thank you!

    1. Re-name your Sims 4 folder temporarily.
    2. Boot up the game and force it to generate a new folder. Then close it out.
    3. Delete the cache, saves, and tray files from the newly generated folder, then paste in the same folders from your re-named sims 4 folder. Do not overwrite! It will cause issues if you overwrite instead of replacing entirely.
    4. Go into your game and see if you can save any lot. If it works and you used custom content for your build, move back ONLY what you need to have the lots intact. Once all lots are saved, go ahead and put your CC and mods files back in if you'd like or just delete the new folder and return your re-named folder to the original name.

  • @nazzeroid  If you have a third-party antivirus installed, try disabling it, only temporarily and only long enough to test saving one of the lots.  If that works, you can set exceptions for TS4_x64.exe and EADesktop.exe.

If you're using OneDrive, try pausing syncing: right-click the OneDrive icon in the lower-right corner of your screen, select Pause syncing, and choose 2 hours or whatever works for you.  Then try to save the lots.

If neither of these helps, you could try saving the houses room by room.  This wouldn't do anything for the landscaping, unless perhaps it would work to build a fence around the yard and save that as a room too.  You could then reassemble the rooms into a house in the other save.

Hello! Thank you for your reply. I just tried these and a couple other things multiple times and no dice.

I don't have a third-party antivirus so my next guesses were the firewall and windows defender. I made exceptions for the .exes mentioned - ts4_x64 and EADesktop, and additionally the legacy edition of sims 4 (ts4)

Onedrive is disabled at startup but it needed me to sign in to even sync so i just closed it again

I can't save the rooms by themselves either unfortunately, I get the same error

I also tried running as administrator, and I tried repairing the game with the EA app (twice, but did it again after your last message). I'm sorry I couldn't get it to work, but is there anything else I could try?

@nazzeroid  I wonder if the permissions are somehow borked on the Tray folder.  Please try running takeown on the Documents folder, then on Tray if that doesn't help.  You're going to use this command:

    takeown /F "C:\Users\username\Documents"

Write your actual username for this Windows account (your main one) instead of username.  Since the syntax needs to be exactly right, please copy this command to a Notepad file, substitute in your username, and then copy that string when you're ready to use it.  Hit Windows key-X and choose either "PowerShell (Administrator)" or "Windows Terminal (Administrator)," whichever option is offered, paste the command into the window, and enter.

Then restart your computer and try again to play.

The command for just the Tray folder would be this:

    takeown /F "C:\Users\username\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Tray"

If this doesn't help, I'd like to know whether you can save anything else to the library: other houses, sims, whatever.

im sorry it still doesnt work, exact same problem as before, in which i can only save sims/households but i can't save anything else, not even rooms

i might just have to rebuild the houses from scratch,,,, but thank you so much for your help regardless! i appreciate it 🙂
