Trying to download update and Origin shuts down every time

I was attempting to play Sims 4 but whenever I try to let it update, Origin crashes.

    I was able to bypass this by opening Origin directly, not clicking on the game icon on my desktop. Waited for the update to finish and was then able to play the game.

I've try  to start my game (Sims 4)  - I use the icon on my computer for Origin - Origin window opens and says I have to do an update - I click update - Origin closes (disappears).

    Game started - finally - did not use desk top icon.
