Unable to read any of the skill books.

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.74.59.1030
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Everything but journey.
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Order a new book (encyclopedia vampirica or whatever it's called), attempt to read it from inventory, attempt to put it away and read it, attempt to do the same with other books on bookshelves.
What happens when the bug occurs? Nothing happens, my sim will just stand there like a bump on a log, doing absolutely nothing at all.
What do you expect to see? I'd like to see my sim being able to read and advance to the next levels when it comes to the books.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

I've removed all of my scripting mods, every single one I could find. This included WW, Vampires can bite/kill, no vampire weakness, all of the career ones I have, I am uncertain if I will need to remove the ones I have to add additional traits such as bloodborn. I do not wish to remove the ones for clothing, hair, body, and build items as they should not be causing a problem not to mention it would be a hassle to put back.

Nor do I want to delete my tray items, I have again get to work and all of the content but journey as I wasn't interested in it. Any help would be appreciated. I've cleared the caches by the way as well, and repaired my game but still the same issue comes up.

  • this just sounds like a simple bug, sims do tend to stand around and do nothing a lot. what bookcase did you use? what book did you read? did you do anything else weird beforehand?

    please update me 🙂

  • The bookshelf was the wonders if I remember correctly, book was encyclopedia vampirica volume 1. And just tried it again, got the stupid t-pose. And after that it would just do nothing either, she'd just stand there doing nothing but responding to the buffs she had on her.

  • Hi @Nika-Alexandrov

all bugs need to be tested on a vanilla game, this includes all build/clothing. Currently for example many cc chairs/bar stools are broken which can be an issue.

Best is to try a factory reset and test a new save if you still have issues.

To not loose your data, please follow instructions below: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-4/FAQ-Troubleshooting-Steps-amp-Known-Issues/m-p/3621199

You won't loose anything. Just make sure to not delete any files  and make a backup.

After renaming, repair your game by right clicking on the game in Origin.

Try on a new game with nothing added back first (start new game). If it works, put back your save game and try again. If it still works, you can start putting stuff back.

    • Options.ini (or just re-set all your settings manually)
    • Tray Folder
    • Screenshots/Videos/Custom music
    • Rest of the save games (leave out slot_00000001.save which is the autosave and no longer needed - if you still have it)
    • Custom content like clothing, hair, skins, make up ....
    • ConfigOverride, if you have your own configuration files.
    • Mods (one by one, making sure they all still work)

The rest does not need putting back, cause they are mostly cache files that recreate or log files that are not needed for the game.
