Unable to uninstall The Sims 4 from desktop: One of the game files is corrupted.

@sarahkate513  What's in the Sims 4 folder on your desktop?  Please take a screenshot of the contents and attach it to a post.

Please also open a File Explorer window and search for "TS4" without quotes.  Let me know whether you find any copies of TS4 or TS4.exe, and if so, copy and paste the file path into a post here.

@puzzlezaddict Here are the contents in my Sims 4 folder (picture 1). Note: There is no CC in the Mods folder either.

I search TS4 in File Explorer and what came up is in picture 2. It seems like I had my previous Sims 4 game download synced to my OneDrive cloud (it automatically syncs). Seems like that could be the problem?

I created a backup folder for what seemed to be the Sims 4 installer and the folder is called 'Sims Installer Backup' shown in two of the file paths.

@sarahkate513  Okay, the Sims Installer Backup files should definitely not be there, on your desktop or anywhere else.  The first TS4 and TS4_x64 are in the correct locations, and that's the set of program files from which the game is running.  The Sims 4 Backup folder in your first screenshot is a backup of your user data, and it can stay.

You're right that OneDrive is making this more complicated.  The first thing to do is to disable automatic syncing of your desktop folders to OneDrive; it might also be helpful to block Documents from syncing as well.  You can still upload content manually, but the auto sync may be what's preventing you from deleting anything.

Then just drag the Installer backup folder from your desktop to the recycle bin.  Open your Origin game library, right-click on the Sims 4 icon, and select Repair, then try to launch the game.  Let me know how it goes.

@puzzlezaddict Okay, I stopped OneDrive from backing up files from C:\This PC\Documents, but if I still need to disable backup for anything else, let me know.

I moved my folder 'Sims Installer Backup' to the recycle bin. Should I empty my recycle bin too?

I double-checked all the search results that come up from searching TS4 and it seems the second pair of TS4 and TS4_x64 files (C:\Users\sarah\OneDrive\Desktop) disappeared on their own.

Should I delete the TS4 C:\Program Files (x86) pair too? Just to do a clean download or will that affect my user data? I currently have Origin uninstalled right now, but I wanted to ask a few more questions just to be sure before I install it and try to repair the game.

I hope I make sense, I'm sorry if I'm poorly phrasing anything. I do really appreciate your help.

@sarahkate513  More questions are always fine.  It's easier to wait and get it right the first time rather than accidentally doing the wrong thing and having to clean up the mess later.

I didn't suggest emptying the recycle bin because I wanted to make sure Sims 4 worked first.  So please install Origin, run the repair, and try to launch the game.  Let me know whether it works.  There's no need to delete the program files unless you have more trouble.

Your user data is stored in Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4.  This folder isn't supposed to get deleted when you uninstall the game's program files, but it does happen sometimes.  It's always best to back up this folder before uninstalling—move it to an external drive if you have one; otherwise to a directory not in Documents, i.e. your desktop or somewhere else you've created for backups.

@puzzlezaddict I'm kind of confused. So, as we've discovered I already have The Sims 4 Program Files located on my PC. I just installed Origin and when I right-click on The Sims 4, my option is to download it and it asks me to choose an install location. Will this present a problem?

@sarahkate513  Right-click on the Sims 4 icon in your Origin library and select Locate Game, then navigate to the game's program files.

If that doesn't work, then yes, click Download, and select C:\Program files (x86)\Origin Games as the location.  Origin should start to download, see the files already there, and just verify them.

@puzzlezaddict I located the game and it takes me to an existing Sims 4 folder on my device. Do I click 'Select Folder?'

@sarahkate513  You want to select the Origin Games folder, as you would if you were installing the game without any files present.
