So.....
I did not do everything you suggested.
1) I'm just not tech savvy enough and it's all very intimidating. I can troubleshoot pretty well, but the list was long and spiked my anxiety for some reason...
That being said...
2) I did remove that Sims 4 folder and restarted my computer.
3) I opened Origin, started Sims 4 and picked a random family in Tortosa (or whatever it's called) - I did NOT let any of the new content for the delivery download, but all the packs/kits/stuff/expansions were installed.
4) I had a zoom meeting, so I basically just let the game run on auto and left it alone for about 30 minutes -- nothing happened that shouldn't. The rich family in Tortosa just went on about their business while I zoomed.
5) I did not save that game. I shut it down. Turned it all off - went to dinner - computer was shut down...
6) Upon my return, I deleted the OLD Sims 4 folder with all my previously saved games that was on my desktop
7) I deleted the 'newest' Sims 4 folder - the one made from before my dinner
8) I cleaned out my recycle bin, restarted the computer (why? for a clean slate!)
9) I then left my computer on and idling while I showered. You know, to see if anything weird might happen - nope.
10) Started Sims 4 again with a clean slate - allowed deliveries to be made, sat through all the packs making themselves known, etc. Then made a brand new Sim, taking my dear sweet time. Even used 'my stories' to make a second sim to go with the first... About an hour+ later, I put them in a house in one of the original worlds.. (Willow? Something - the one with the tree you can travel through to get to the hidden glade)
11) Played for about an hour: Used the gallery to find a new house to dl. Had them move to an empty lot, put the house in, changed the house up a bit. Got my sims working on a few skills, including getting to know each other.
At this point, nothing was going on that shouldn't. No shutdowns/sleeping modes. Yay! I suspected it was only in Tortusa that the sleep mode happens. Maybe you're not supposed to use those residential lots....
12) So I saved and exited, went to Tortusa (same game mind you) and picked that rich family in the huge house. Thebes? (Same as when I zoomed)
13) Played the five sims for... I dunno 15-20 minutes. Just had them talking... my fans started to churn a bit, but the machine wasn't HOT or anything. I waited for sleep mode to hit because, in the past, soon as the fans started whirring, it took a minute for it to go to sleep. Nothing.
Result? I think I had a corrupted file. Everything seems to be working fine now. I'll test again tomorrow and see about playing my new sims and see what happens.
Hello!
Would you mind sharing your machine specifications, please? if possible we would be needing your dxdiag from your computer as well.
You can attach one directly to a post.

This info is needed for us to replicate the issue.

My game is working fine now. Just an FYI.
Everything is settled and it doesn't seem to matter if my laptop lid is up or down - I have a secondary gaming monitor I use as my primary monitor.
Also, some things that were supposedly dl'd to me via the new little 'new arrival' thing is now functioning better too. I have a lot more new items that were not showing up before. This also removed my white-screen when closing the sims.
