    It's most probably a bug. It has a thread in the bug forum.

    Does the relationship suffer for you because of it ?

You can have a good date by interacting with the other sim A LOT. You’ll know the date is going well when you get notifications like “This date just keeps getting better!”, and “It’s so nice to be with someone I can talk to for hours!” But that’s just from my experience.
