My first laptop had broken down and I need a new one. I’d only be in CAS and occasionally the game to take some screenshots

if youre gonna suggest something else please realize that I have a budget of $199 and can’t go above it

  • @oreosssz  No, sorry, this computer isn't anywhere near good enough.  While its processor and graphics card might handle the base game on low settings, running the newer expansions would likely be out of the question.  4 GB RAM is also not enough.

More importantly though, the hard drive on this laptop is far too small.  Aside from maybe a couple of browsers, you won't really be able to install anything on this computer.  The Sims 4 base game alone takes 14 GB, you have your cc and saves, and Windows itself will eat up a lot of storage.  Even if you technically had room for all that (not installing any packs, either), Windows wouldn't have enough space to maneuver, and your system would grind to a halt.

I understand that you can't go above $200, but there really aren't any new computers in that price range that could be expected to handle Sims 4.  Even the decent used offerings from places like Best Buy or Amazon tend to be more expensive.  There might be a used laptop somewhere like Ebay that would work, but then again that's a risk.

    Thank you!

Do you think either of these would work?

I only have city living and dine out, I really don’t care about actual gameplay as I only use TS4 for CAS and screenshots when it comes to me making CC

@oreosssz  The first one you listed has a hard drive that's almost as small as the previous laptop; 64 GB isn't going to be enough either.  The second one is better, although I'm not impressed with Walmart's disclaimer about the listed specs.

If you're comfortable with a used laptop, this is the best one I've seen on Amazon so far:

    https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Laptop-Latitude-Radeon-Windows/dp/B00XTPK15W

It has a dedicated graphics card, a decent amount of storage, and a processor that should still be fine for what you want to do.

An alternative is this one, which has a slightly weaker processor and no dedicated card, but it does have the advantage of a solid state drive:

I may or may not be able to swing the first one you linked but just in case... My best option would be the second one I linked?

@oreosssz  If you need to go with a lower-priced model, I think either of these would be better than the one from Walmart:

    https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-ThinkPad-i5-5300U-256GB-Laptop/dp/B017PK6WYA

(this is a stupidly long link)

The first has a solid state drive, and the second one has a better processor and slightly better graphics card.  Both are a bit newer than the Walmart laptop as well.

I really like the second one! thank you! This should be able to hold 1gb-2gb of custom content as well?

@oreosssz  Yes, all the laptops I linked would hold your custom content.  None of them are going to run the game on ultra settings, but you should be able to play, take screenshots, and make your cc without trouble.
