D3DERR_INVALIDCALL! Error for Sims UC

Since Sims 2 UC wasn't available for Mac I had it installed on bootcamp on Windows XP. The game installed fine and it's almost entirely playable except for the error D3DERR_INVALIDCALL which pops up occasionaly and makes my game shut down. I heard of reinstalling it, playing in windowed mode, or getting the latest DirectX update from what I read on this topic; apparently it was a plague for modders trying to use Body Shop. Would doing any of that solve the problem?
