Game just keeps installing

I'm trying to open The Sims Medieval but it just keeps saying Finalizing and then reverting to the Install button. How can I actually finalize the installation and start playing? I'm so frustrated. I have tried both restarting Origin and restarting my computer (Mac).

  • @Player_5rmqhmrj  What version of macOS does your computer run?  If it's Catalina, that's the issue: Sims Medieval is a 32-bit app, and Catalina is 64-bit only.  There's no way to make the game run, unfortunately, and no indication that EA will make a 64-bit version, although Sims 3 is getting an update at some point.

If you want to play Sims Medieval, your only options are to play on another computer, to install Windows on your Mac (through Bootcamp or Parallels), or to install Mojave on an external drive or USB and boot into that when you want to play.  Let me know if you'd like more information about either of these options.

@Fantasyhamster  You can manually trash the files if you want.  While the Sims Medieval app in Applications is likely not the only associated data, other hidden files are probably small and not likely to be an issue unless you try to reinstall later.

If you want to go looking for those hidden files, you could use this guide to uninstalling Sims 3.  I'm not saying Medieval has exactly the same file structure, but this would give you an idea of where to search and what kinds of file names to look for.

I wouldn't worry about the hidden library files too much though: they're typically small and don't get used unless the associated application is opened.

@sullivanca961  If your Mac runs Catalina, then Spore won't install for the same reason as above: it's a 32-bit app, and Catalina is 64-bit only.  Sorry.
