MySims will not boot.

I'm working on transferring games and game data to a new PC after having a gaming laptop for 5 years.

I'm doing the method of freshly installing each game and then pasting the save data after booting the game once. I have my laptop with me so I'm able to transfer the save data with a USB. The only games I have on my EA account are The Sims 4 and MySims. The Sims 4 was able to boot and accept the save data just fine.

However, MySims refuses to boot, giving me an error saying there was something wrong with the game's setup and to please reinstall the game.

I have tried repairing the files, uninstalling and reinstalling the game multiple times, trying a different installation location, updating my graphics card, and even pasting my sava data to where it's supposed to be in my Documents. Nothing seems to make this game boot.

I don't know if this has to do with the game's age, given that I'm on Windows 11 and my graphics card is very new (Nividia 4070 Ti), or if it's to do with how the game is getting installed. I need to boot the game so it can generate files for me to replace with my own but the game refuses to do that.

Is there something I'm missing? Any help would be much appreciated.

  • I have not tried that yet.

I think frankly I have forgotten where that’s located or how to locate it. if it’s within the app files, I can poke around and see where it is.

I know I can clear temp files from the settings on windows, but I’m assuming it must not look in those files.

Cleared Cache- still has the same message, apparently this has been happening to people for years, how come EA hasn't fixed it yet?

So tried just about what I could.

-Cleared temp files on my PC.

    -Restarted my PC

-Let the app update to its newest edition (cause it did an update today)

-Finally figured out where the cache is cleared and did that.

    -Reinstalled the game again.

-Even repaired the game again for good measure.

I still got nothing. It still refuses to launch. It thinks for less than a few seconds then gives me the same error again.

Still don't know why it refuses to boot here. It ran fine on my laptop before, but I'm still thinking age has something to do with it.

Edit: I saw a Reddit post someone ran it in a compatibility mode to fix their problem. Well, for me it didn't do anything. The troubleshooter recommended Windows Vista, and I even tried Windows 7 since I believe that was what a Redditor used, but both got the same result. The same error message plaguing me this whole time. "There is a problem with your game's setup. Please reinstall your game." Yeah... not like I've tried that over a dozen times. 😞

@That1proxy , My Sims is an old game that sometimes will no longer install on modern computers. I think it is still for sale on the EA App (I cannot check as I play on a Mac), but have been told it is very cheap.

Can you please check for me and report back?
