Redeeming old product codes

I've been trying to get my old Sims 2 games onto my Origin so I might be able to upgrade to Ultimate Collection like is says Here and a couple of other places in the help section this week, but all my product codes give me this message:

"We're sorry, this code cannot be redeemed here. Please redeem your code at the following site: http://help.ea.com/."

Eventually, I found https://activate.ea.com/activategame.do, but it says my product key for my base game is already in use (possibly because it was already registered on my EA account, which I already updated to an Origin account, but I don't see any of the games I had already registered with EA). When I tried an expansion pack, is says:

"Select an Electronic Arts Classic Screen Name Persona from the list below to associate your product code to or provide the details for a new one. NOTE: If you are activating a game that requires a base game to play (example: booster pack, expansion pack, stuff pack, etc.), you must select an existing Electronic Arts Classic Screen Name Persona that has already played the base game."

One, I don't know if it's actually asking for my Origin screenname and password to link to, my old EA account, or something new. Two, I was unable to get my base game in first, so there was no list to choose from.

Now what? Little help, please?

  • I waited for five hours for someone to answer the Live Chat, with three tries in Firefox, tried clearing all my history and stuff and signing in again, and I remain logged into Origin during each try, each try lasting longer than the last and more than twice as long as the approximate wait times. This is either taking way too long, not working, or I did something wrong. Any suggestions? Should I put my topic under Origin or Sims 2? Is there some sort of trick to getting through?

I can provide screenshot proof that my game was already registered under EA with my email address and everything. Should the file be attached to my case before someone answers, or should it wait?

Also which window will do something when it finally connects? There's a small one that pops up and then the main one. Both say to wait until I'm connected with an EA Game Advisor. I don't know which one will actually put me through.

  • Sometimes commuity managers watch the topics but no guarantee for that.

Now thet write for me in the chat

     Wait Time: between 5 - 10 minutes

No other suggestion only try the chat.

Yes i read  you wait a few hour.

Perhaps try with IE but not relevant.

  • So here's something that helped that I wished I knew. After another two hours with two different browsers running simultaneously, I started messing with things. Turns out I had to turn off ALL my browser security features. I found suggestions to turn off things like Adblock or Do Not Track Me, but no, I had to turn off everything, all virus programs and every add-on and extension that could affect anything of anything in my browser. I had been trying one or two things at a time, but I really didn't want to have to try turning/disabling everything at once, but that was the only thing that provided a different result.

Before, the small window that popped up looked just like the main window with a loading animation saying "Please wait while you are connected to a game advisor" or something to that effect, but after disabling everything, it looks like a chat box which is greyed out with a white box over it telling me my "approximate wait time" which actually counted down. So it’s the small pop-up box that contains the Live Chat, not your main window you started from. Just in case any other first-timers aren't sure and nothing looks different to them as well.

Once connected, I was thorough with my explanation, and I waited about five minutes for a response, but it went smoothly from there and the solved my problem.

I have no idea if all my tries to get through before were actually being answered or anything and if I just wasn't recieving anything.

I'm posting this information, because despite asking and searching (you know, during the hours and several tries getting through I wasn't just sitting there mindlessly waiting) I couldn't find an exact solution that helped and ended up getting it by trial and error. Hopefully this will help others like me that just need to get through to start a Live Chat in the first place.
