When I first started this game, I started with a single mom with three foster kids (that's how I rationalize the fact that I forgot to set up relationships), a teen, child and toddler. It's a writers collective, each writing a different type of novel. I used a cheat code to remove their funds, leaving just enough for the three to take writing courses. Mom is writing Mysteries (actually improving writing skill so she can). The teen is writing Humour (he's just working on his first book). The child is writing SciFi and the only one actually writing novels. Because they have no money, they are living at the community pool (toilets, showers and loungers to serial nap on) and writing at the library. The teen was just about to finish up his first novel, so I left him late. Nope, the police picked him up for a curfew violation when the book was 98% complete. He was grounded. He's not allowed to go to school (because of this, Mom is bawling him out for bad grades). He is stuck on the home lot with no toilet, shower, bed or food. Every time he leaves, he gets caught and grounded again (at least he gets fed etc). It was a viscous cycle. Mom spent so much time bawling him out, that she didn't get much writing improvement each day. They were living on the income of the child's SciFi income (a child who spends most of his time at school and napping and trying to get his mood out of the toilet so he can write). I had to get better at keeping them (very much) apart til the grounding was finally over.
